Q: Is this a type 1 or type 2 BCG?

Asked by: laurence miller - 8/18/2021

A: Our 6.5 Grendel BCG meets the 6.5 Grendel SAAMI spec for the 6..5 Grendel cartridge of a .136 bolt face aka Type 2 bolt.

Q: I have a Bear Creek Arsenal 10.5 upper chambered in 7.62x39. Will this work with that as I believe they use type 2 bolts? Will this give me better reliability especially not having to worry about the extractor breaking?

Asked by: Joe - 3/28/2021

A: I am not aware of BCA using Type 2 bolts for their 7.62x39 uppers. The customer we had that sent in their BCA 7.62x39 bolt carrier group to us a couple of years ago to figure out why their bolt assemblies didn't work with our extractors had a bolt face of .125" which is Type I bolt assembly (7.62x39). Now I'm not sure if they changed this feature so to be sure you should talk with BCA directly to see what their bolt face is for their 7.62x39.

Q: is this compatible with the piston driven ar15 rifles

Asked by: raphael Hanna - 2/7/2020

A: No these are not compatible with piston ar15 rifles. These are for your standard direct impingement gas system rifles. We use these in our DI Uppers we offer for sale. For our piston system we use one piece piston carriers which we do not offer for individual sale on our website as it's spec'd to our piston system.

Q: Is this compatible with the colloquial "Type 1" Grendel barrels?

Asked by: Ben - 2/3/2020

A: No, this would not be compatible with 6.5 Grendel barrels that are chambered for 7.62x39 (Type 1) bolts which have a .125" bolt face. For 6.5 Barrels that have use a Type 1 bolt (7.62x39) you would need a 7.62x39 Bolt Carrier Group. We have a couple of customers with 6.5 rifles chambered for 7.62x39 and they use the Type 1 (7.62x39 bolts and extractors) for their rifles.

Q: how often does the buffer pad have to be replaced?

Asked by: thomas - 3/14/2019

A: We have never in over 10 years have had to replace any customers carrier buffer due to wear. It's a lifetime replacement part if damaged due to normal use.

Answer provided by: Administrator (2/7/2020)

Q: Does the 6.5 Grendel bolt use the same extractor as the 7.62x39 bolt? I recently purchased this Grendel and I have spare extractors for my 7.62 BRA BCG.

Asked by: Justin - 2/17/2018

A: No, our 6.5 Grendel bolt assemblies have different extractors than the 7.62x39 bolt assemblies due to the bolt face differences. You would need to purchase a 6.5 Grendel extractor for use with our 6.5 bolt assemblies that will fit and reliably eject the round.

Answer provided by: Administrator (2/17/2018)

Q: Is this a Type 1 or Type 2 bolt for the 6.5 Grendel?

Asked by: Uruiz84 - 8/1/2017

A: The 6.5 Grendel Bolt has a .136 head spacing which is commonly referred to as the Type 2 bolt within the AR-15 community.

Q: What does the carrier buffer do?

Asked by: Jordan Hollingsworth - 1/20/2017

A: Integrated Polymer Buffer:
Eliminates metal on metal contact
Eliminates contact between the hardened steel carrier, aluminum receiver extension and buffer
Eliminates hardened steel carrier as it transitions between upper and lower receivers
Self-lubricating, shock absorbing, and has seven times the abrasion resistance of carbon steel
Reduction in felt recoil and vibration

Black Rifle Arms® M16/AR15 Enhanced 6.5 Grendel Bolt Carrier Group Patented Buffer Technology

We Set Out To Improve Upon Existing Bolt Carriers

The enhanced carrier's integrated buffer helps not only to eliminate metal on metal contact during the transition from upper to lower receivers, but it also buffers the impact between carrier and buffer. Comes with standard bolt carrier polymer buffer.

BOLT CARRIER:

  • BCG Weight: 10.76 oz.
  • Bolt Carrier Material, 8620
  • Key Material, 4130
  • Bolt Carrier Nickel Boron Coating
  • Standard Firing Pin
  • Bolt body produced from AISI 9310 VAR (Vacuum Arc Remelt), the highest standard bolt material made
    • Machined completely in one operation; this eliminates tolerance and repeatability issues that arise from the multiple fixturing processes used by other manufacturers
    • Enhanced Design for utmost reliability
    • Tightly controlled proprietary heat treat process to accurately control cast depth and core hardness
  • Extractor produced from MIL-S-5000 steel and vacuum hardened
  • NSCW Crane Division extractor upgraded with Viton® o-ring, 5 coil spring, and plunger
  • Cam Pin, Melonite QPQ
  • Firing Pin Retaining Pin
  • Standard Size Integrated Polymer Buffer:
    • Eliminates metal on metal contact
    • Eliminates contact between the hardened steel carrier, aluminum receiver extension and buffer
    • Eliminates hardened steel carrier as it transitions between upper and lower receivers
    • Self-lubricating, shock-absorbing and has seven times the abrasion resistance of carbon steel
    • Reduction in felt recoil and vibration
  1. Bolt Carrier due to the polymer buffer is not compatible with folding stocks.
  2. JP Silent Capture Spring is not compatible with our bolt carriers. In order to use JP Silent Capture Spring, end-user would need to make modifications to the carrier's integrated buffer
  3. Armaspec Stealth Recoil Spring is not compatible with our bolt carriers.
  4.  Some off-the-shelf rifle cleaning solutions such as Hoppe's #9 can react negatively with NiB finishes. Since our carriers have nickel-based coating these should not be used on NiB/EXO coated products. Always refer to the manufacturer's recommendations before use on NiB/EXO coated products.
  5. Our Select Fire Customers have stated carrier bounce has been eliminated due to the polymer base buffer. We have run select-fire and have not experienced carrier bounce since the introduction of the integrated polymer base buffer
  6. Patented buffer technology has been in use for over 11 years and/or with over 20,000 rounds without needing to replace the polymer buffer; however, if one damages the polymer buffer it is easily replaced.
